Just out of curiosity, why am I the computer geek of the family? I realized while watching Jeopardy today that I could answer every question in the "Handy Electronics" category. Most of which were computer questions... Why was I destined to be such a geek about computers? Why am I learning programming so I can write my own Operating System? I mean, I'm sure none of this knowledge helps my social life considering that all my friends hardly understand what I'm talking about in computers asside from the window boxes and mouse clicks and keyboard writes... I know things about and how to do things with computers that the average Tom, Dick, and Harry out there are affraid of even taking the cursor near.
Here's a good example:
When I got my Wi-Fi router, I knew how to set it up to where it would work along side our wired router and not cause network conflicts with DHCP and routing without giving it too much thought.
Or:
When mom and dad couldn't access Justin's (Molly's Husband) BIOS because of a password that they didn't know, I said, "Easy, pull the BIOS chip and BIOS battery, wait for everything to wind down and then reseat it," like it was nothing.
Or:
Ms. Shapiro says, "This computer isn't recognizing its OS for some reason." She leaves the room and during that time, I stop the 3D Model I was making and pull the computer out, open it, and start reseating everything from RAM (Random Access Memory) chips to HDDs (Hard Disk Drives). Moments later, she walks in and jokingly asks "what are you doing buddy, stealing ram?" I laugh and say, "No, I heard this computer isn't recognizing it's OS, so I took the liberty to remove and reseat all major periferals such as HDDs and RAM." She looks at me inquizitivly but she turns on the computer: bam, the operating system comes up. Needless to say, I became her personal computer tech...
Another thing:
I ask the school's computer techs "how often do you defrag the computers?" and they say, "well we don't want to remove the data from the harddrives." I'm like, wtf... Defrag (Verb): See Defragment. Defragment (Verb - Computer Tech): To organize the files in a computers hard drive to utilize space and provide quicker and more accurate data proccessing. Removing Data (Verb): See Format. Format (Verb): To clear all data from a hard drive. Its like they can't tell an IP (Internet Protocol) Address from a MAC (Media Access Controller) Address... or a 56k Modem from a NIC.
But I'm not complaining... I just want to know why it is me who's the computer nerd? Why can't all people be like me? Why can't I be like all people? "So many questions, the only real question is why, why, why? Thats the infinate question." -Quess from the .hack//Games
Well, thats all.
